Just a Button - free iPhone game

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

We just released a new iPhone game: Just a Button, you can get it on the AppStore for free.

Just a Button is a little game made for the Experimental Gameplay Project.

The rules of Experimental Gameplay Project are pretty simple:
1. Each game must be made in less than seven days,
2. Each game must be made by exactly one person
3. Each game must be based around a common theme i.e. “gravity”, “vegetation”, “swarms”, etc.

The theme for august 2009 was “Bare minimum” and, as you can see, the graphics of the game are close to the theme.
Having bare minimum visuals is the first step, but trying to find the bare minimum gameplay to have fun with a game seems a lot more interesting!
The idea behind Just a Button is that pushing a button is the minimal action needed to do something in 95% of video games, so why not trying to make a game where this action is the only one available?
This game explore gameplay variations around this thought. Quickly the multiplayer aspect was added to the project because hell yeah, playing games is even better with friends around!

And so here was born the idea: Fun with Just a Button and some Friends

Achieve the best score in Penguins Invasion, the first iPhone game from Frogames, and win US$100!

Penguins Invasion is the first iPhone game developed by Frogames. It revisits the game universe of Penguins Arena: Sedna’s world, which was released 18 months ago on Mac OS X and Windows, and which won the 2007 Intel® Game Demo Contest.
Penguins Invasion is a small but addictive game; a “wack-a-mole” set in the colorful and fun world of the penguins in Penguins Arena.
This time, driven from their home by global warming, the penguins are invading us with explosive fish! You of course, are the last bastion of humanity…
The game features include:
- online scores
- achievements
- short and fast-paced games
- easy and intuitive controls
- a high quality of graphics and sound
- increasing difficulty level
- a $5 coupon to purchase Penguins Arena (Mac OS X & Windows)
For more information about the game and to view the online scores, please visit: http://www.frogames.com/iphone/
The game costs US$1, and you can buy it at: http://itunes.com/apps/PenguinsInvasion

The prize is very generous: US$100! That’s 100 times the price of the game!

Penguins Arena - Learn how to be a Pro

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

G Rekedens from our forums made a great guide for Penguins Arena players : Learn how to be a Pro.

Here an excerpt:

Being hit by a Fish Bomb: You should avoid Fish Bombs at all costs, but if you happened to get launched up into the air, use these tips to land safely back on the ground if possible.

  1. Fly away from the water. If your thrown towards the water, press the S (or what ever key you choose for backwards) to start flying away from the water. Do the same for what ever direction your going.
  2. If the bomb has not quite gone off yet, and you know there’s no time you escape, brace yourself. If you are going to get thrown forward, hold down S to start going backwards and minimize the force.
  3. Never run away while close to a bomb. You won’t make it. If an opponent places a bomb by your feet, running away will only increase your danger. Once the bomb goes off, you’ll be going so fast that there is no hope to fly back to land, and you’ll beat eaten by sharks!

This guide will help new players but we’re pretty sure it will also be very helpfull to veterans! Thank you Rekedens!
