Penguins Arena - Learn how to be a Pro

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

G Rekedens from our forums made a great guide for Penguins Arena players : Learn how to be a Pro.

Here an excerpt:

Being hit by a Fish Bomb: You should avoid Fish Bombs at all costs, but if you happened to get launched up into the air, use these tips to land safely back on the ground if possible.

  1. Fly away from the water. If your thrown towards the water, press the S (or what ever key you choose for backwards) to start flying away from the water. Do the same for what ever direction your going.
  2. If the bomb has not quite gone off yet, and you know there’s no time you escape, brace yourself. If you are going to get thrown forward, hold down S to start going backwards and minimize the force.
  3. Never run away while close to a bomb. You won’t make it. If an opponent places a bomb by your feet, running away will only increase your danger. Once the bomb goes off, you’ll be going so fast that there is no hope to fly back to land, and you’ll beat eaten by sharks!

This guide will help new players but we’re pretty sure it will also be very helpfull to veterans! Thank you Rekedens!

Interview

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008

Last week GarageGames published an interview of us.

What was your development process like?
Penguins Arena was born during a Game in a Day session (the subject was “impalement”). Penguins Arena’s gameplay really hasn’t changed much since the early prototype…we just replaced the sticks with snowballs! Some months later we worked on a second prototype, and we were so happy with the results, we decided to make a full game out of it.
We like to use an iterative process because it’s probably the most comfortable one for a young team. The problem with this process is: when are you supposed to stop working on a feature, or even on the game itself? Nobody is going to tell you when enough is enough, and more features don’t necessary mean more fun.

Many thanks to Deborah for her support and to GarageGames for making awesome Game Engines!

Frogames lends to entrepreneurs in need of funding (Kiva.org)

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

Today Frogames makes its first loans on www.kiva.org to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world attempting to lift themselves out of poverty.
Now Frogames wants to go further and Kiva is a great opportunity for the team to support the working poor.

Kiva is a person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world.
The loans made to people on www.kiva.org help them make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family and their community.
For every game “Penguins Arena” sold, Frogames makes a 1 dollar loan. The Frogames Team currently lends to 3 entrepreneurs in Togo and Nigeria.

But this is just the first step, Frogames will continue to lend on a monthly basis. Frogames will also integrate the income generated by “MiniOne Racing“, a thrilling racing game which will be available very soon for windows and Mac OS. For every game “MiniOne racing” sold, Frogames will lend one dollar too!
